CNN.com ... 11 signs your job interview isn't going well.

True story: I know a hiring manager who brought someone in for an interview.  This person, we’ll call him Joe, was picked up at the airport by a car service.  Joe behaved in an extremely arrogant and condescending manner to the “driver” of the car, not knowing that the “driver” was a loyal employee of the hiring company and had a great relationship with the hiring manager who very much appreciated his input and opinion on many subjects – including his ‘first impression’ of those individuals who were brought in for interviews.

Joe was charming, smart and on-target during the interview process.  He may have been invited back for a second round, however, the hiring manager happened to see the “driver” and asked what he thought … and proceeded to get an earful.  Joe was not invited to return for the second interview.

You see, the “driver” recognized the company culture was one of true respect for all individuals regardless of level within the organization.  The hiring manager recognized that he couldn’t afford to have a Sales Manager who was disrespectful and arrogant. And, Joe failed to recognize the ramifications of his behavior.

It’s not just about having the requisite skills and abilities to do the job.  It’s about “the fit” with the company culture as well.  We like to say that it’s a combination of “Can Do, Will Do & Fit.”

Anthony Balderrama, who writes for CareerBuilder, recently wrote an article for CNN.com.  In the article, 11 Signs that your Interview is in Trouble, Anthony outlines some of the warning signs that your job interview could be in trouble.  ISHR Group provided tips 8 and 9 …

Sign 8: You get snippy with the administrative assistant.

Sign 9: You spend 10 minutes complaining about your last boss.
